about

Fuck it, we got liner notes:

1.Clog The Nozzle

People have already complained that this one is too noisy, but that's just the nature of the beast. I could take out all noises, and that guitar part is still just fundamentally noisy.

2.Single Response Indicator

Maybe my all time favorite song I've ever recorded. Actually, this one and "Clog The Nozzle" are both in my all time top ten. These two are part of the reason why I've slowed down with the song writing lately, because I don't think I can top either of them.

3.VCP

Good old faithful, normal VCP. Nothing off kilter at all about you. With my stuff I go for a kind of "functional weirdness", where it has the rough edges, but you theoretically could still clean it up and make it presentable.

4.Never Going Back

This is a dumb one. Basically, for like a year & a half, Hulu served me up a Mississippi tourism commercial featuring the musical talents of Leo Bud Welch. The riff from the song he plays in that commercial burned into my brain, so I made a demented post-punk version of it.

5.Void Glide

Okay, here's where we start to get into the deep water. Side two is definitely light on the whole "functional" aspect of the "functional weirdness". This song features me, a lefty, playing a cheapo righty guitar in a weird tuning. Also, the four tracks in the intro were all recorded without listening to the audio of the other tracks, so it's just me guessing where the changes are.

6.Hardcore Immortalist

This one was recorded on a flood guitar. A former $1000 guitar that spent a day submerged in two feet of water and emerged a piece of shit worth MAYBE $300 tops. This one sat on the shelf for a long time, it was boring to me, like a Bad Religion song, but then I finally fixed it by reversing the vocals in the verses and adding some paulstretch shit. Now I like it and it's a definite case of the weirdness warring with the functional .

7. Oh No

I should've just smothered this one in the crib. I hesitate to even show this one to people. Nothing functional about it at all. Ewok music if the Empire had won.

8. The Aggravator

A steer back towards sanity. Still a butthole of a song, but at least gravity has been restored. Every band member I've ever shown this song to has had massive trouble trying to play it. I abandoned it myself multiple times and it was really only through extensive frankensteining that I even made it "work". The guitar line is thin, so I thought bringing it up in the mix would make it fuller, but all that really did was drown out the bass and make it even thinner, but it's an appropriate tribute to a song that will frustrate the fuck out of you.
